Brief Bio

Darcy was born in San Francisco and grew up in Los Altos, a town in the Bay Area. She went to Pinewood High School in Los Altos Hills. She is pursuing a double major in English Literature and Math at Swarthmore and she will graduate in May, 2006. At Swarthmore, she has played on the basketball, volleyball, and track and field varsity teams.

Question & Answer

What was your favorite math experience?

My favorite math topic/experience was studying elliptic curve cryptography. I loved seeing a real-life application of math at such a high level.

What do you hope to be doing next year this time?

I have applied for the Fulbright Scholarship to travel to Norway to pursue a master's degree in Norwegian literature studying Henrik Ibsen at the University of Oslo. I hope to recieve this scholarship, and if not, I will return to San Francisco for a job at Gensler, an architechture firm.

What advice would you give freshman and sophomores considering majoring in mathematics and statistics?

Start completing your requirements early! And go to office hours as often as you can.
