Brief Bio
Zach had lived all of his life in Maryland until arriving at Swarthmore College. He grew up on the Maryland/DC border where he lived until he was fifteen at what time he moved to Baltimore City. For high school, Zach attended Mount Saint Joseph, a small college preparatory catholic school located in southwest baltimore. While there, his primary interests were science and art for which he received senior awards upon graduation. After arriving at Swarthmore College, it was Zach's intention to be a major in either chemistry or physics. It was, however, his first course in abstract math, modern algebra, that changed his mind. Currently, Zach has plans to take some time off before attending graduate school in mathematics.Question & Answer
- What was your favorite math experience?
- Analysis. I like it because it is not well behaved like algebra.
- What do you hope to be doing next year this time?
- Next year I will either be serving for Teach for America in an urban high school, or I will be working for the Peace Corpas.
- What advice would you give freshman and sophomores considering majoring in mathematics and statistics?
- Don't give up. Also, you won't know what math is really like until you have taken algebra or analysis, so you should at least give one of them a try. I didn't have any plans to be a math major until I took Modern Algebra. That was the course that changed my plans of being a physics major.
