Brief Bio

Jaky Joseph grew up in Harlem, NYC but his family is from Haiti. They immigrated to the U.S in 1983 and he is the youngest of all his parent's children. Since he was younger he was always interested in mathematics and as he grew older, found a passion for economics. For the most part, he was always interested in many topics, so he never restricted himself to just economics and mathematics but tried to learn as much as he could from all types of subject areas.

He attended the Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics located in Harlem and is currently pursuing his B.A. in Economics and Mathematics. He hopes to attend graduate school in the near future.

Question & Answer

What was your favorite math experience?
My favorite math topic would have to be calculus. I like calculus because of its analytical ability and I understand it very well.
What do you hope to be doing next year this time?
Around this time next year, I hope to be working and applying to graduate programs in business or economics.
What advice would you give freshman and sophomores considering majoring in mathematics and statistics?
I suggest if you haven't written proofs before, take Discrete Math early on while you are here. And get to know a Math prof. In my experience here, they have all been really nice and comforting because they understand things get tough. They are always willing to help out when you need it.
