Brief Bio

Jon was born in Denver, Colorado, but he grew up on a farm in Central Pennsylvania. Despite an unhealthy obsession with Nintendo and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Jon graduated from State College Area High School in 2002. He went to Swarthmore College where he double majored in Mathematics and Economics. During his time at Swarthmore, Jon also captained the ultimate frisbee team and started his own business. In May of 2006 Jon plans to graduate from Swarthmore and hike the Appalachian Trail before starting work at McKinsey & Company in October.

Question & Answer

What was your favorite math experience?

My favorite math topic was discrete math. I liked discrete math because Professor Maurer really got me excited about proving everything I possibly could about the Towers of Hanoi.

What do you hope to be doing next year this time?

Next year I will be working as a consultant for McKinsey & Company.

What advice would you give freshman and sophomores considering majoring in mathematics and statistics?

Take as many courses with our favorite professors as possible and let the chips fall where they may.
