Where to go to get Math & Stat Help

There are two ways to get help:

  • The Math Clinic: The clinic runs from Sunday through Thursday from 7:00pm - 10:00 pm in the Math Clinic Room, Science Center Room 145.

  • Tutors: Tutors are assigned as requests come in. Individual tutoring is available and is paid for by the Dean's Office. However, we expect you to try to get help at the math clinic and office hours first. If you need more individual help than you can get at the math clinic and office hours, then we try to arrange for tutoring. If you would like a tutor follow these steps:

    1. Talk to the professor for the class. The two of you should agree on the number of hours necessary before reevaluation (there are limits--see below) and what particular activities are going to be involved in the tutoring.

    2. The professor will try to acquire a tutor for you.

    3. The professor will arrange a meeting between you and the tutor to discuss the situtation.

Tutoring is paid for by a fund from the Dean's Office. Their expectation is that tutoring will be a short-term affair, and that the total number of hours of tutoring for a student will be at most 10. To authorize more than 10 hours, the Dean's Office needs a note from the department supporting the request. So, always let the professor know if you are getting close to the 10 hour limit.

Would you like to be a math clinician, tutor, or grader?

The department hires Swarthmore students to fill these jobs during the fall and spring semesters. Applications for these positions are generally accepted during the two weeks proceeding the start of a semester. Contact the following person for more details.
