What he does:
- Ken works with Analysis Group in Denver, Colorado, in the field of economic and financial consulting. The cases he works on concern litigation support or transfer pricing.
Math on the job:
- Ken works with statistics more than mathematics. Most of the material he studied in mathematics classes in college is not directly relevant, but the thought process he developed during his classes is invaluable.
Ken's background:
- Ken double majored in Economics, and Mathematics with an emphasis on Statistics. He has always preferred applied mathematics over pure mathematics. Before college, Ken spent six years learning math in Mandarin and five years learning math in Malay in Malaysia.
Ken's advice to students:
- Having any slight interest in mathematics is a valid reason to major in mathematics. For those interested in using mathematics in other fields, taking classes in other disciplines will give you ideas and options on where this interest in mathematics can take you. Plan your classes at college well, but do not hesitate to try new things - during and after college.
