Republic
of Panama
This trip was made possible thanks to the
support of the many Swarthmore alumni and donors, who created
the Enders Field Funds Endowment, in honor of professor
emeritus of Biology Robert
K. Enders.
This 10-day field trip to the Republic of Panama during
spring break (Friday, March 5 to Sunday, March 14, 2004)
allowed students to experience the flora and fauna of several
tropical environments including rain forest, dry forest,
mountain forest, mangrove forest, cloud forest, and coral
reefs. At the end of the trip, we visited Barro
Colorado Island, one of the most prestigious tropical
research stations in the world located in the Panama canal
and administered by the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute.
As a teacher, I feel privilege by being able to offer my
students this unique opportunity outside the classroom
and to share my love for the flora, fauna and people of
Latin America..
