Project: Green Architecture and its Role in a Developing Country

Ghana is a country with a large expanse of resources, yet, perhaps has a limited means for extracting and fully-utilitzing these assets. The student will explore the issues which accompany industrial, architectural, and community building within an environmental frame work. Dissecting the various components of green architecture, the student could chose to pursue the purpose, structure, and practicality of such methods.

Among several questions, the student could explore the following:

• What techniques of sustainable architecture are possible given the conditions of a developing country? What techniques are common? What has been attempted?
• What conditions in Ghana are limiting to an environmental approach to architecture?
• What are the social and cultural components of architectural development? How would green architecture affect these components?
