Project: Biogas in Palonia

This project will require a longer duration case study in Apolania, where a biogas project is currently underway. (2) The project, begun in 1989, has various benefits and costs, as the student will begin to explore the political, ethical, economic, social, and cultural foundations behind its establishment. The student will work directly with the committee on biogas research, as well as separate research, interviews, and observation, in order to comprehend the dynamics of such a project.

Among several other questions, students could explore the following:

• What has been established in the last many years of the project?
• How has the community responded?
• What are the affects of the project upon social development?
• What are various gender perspectives on the project?
• What does the biogas project wish to complete? How much money does this entail?
• How feasible is this development in terms of the community's adaptability, needs, etc?
