Project: Microinvertibrate Studies in Bui

Based in Northern Ghana, the student's self-motivation will lead them in a project, conducted with local peoples. While staying in a village and National Park for some time, the student will survey the macroinvertibrate community. Paying special attention to the conditions of the damn that is being built in the northern region, the student will explore the functions of the current river and the affects upon the community during its transformation into a lake. Social and cultural considerations will also shape this project, as the student's constant interaction with local peoples will influence and prescribe observations.

Among several other questions, the following could be explored:

• What can be observed about the macroinvertibrate community?
• What makes up this community?
• What influences its operations?
• What problems exist and what are some feasible solutions?
