Project: Rural development and Environmental Policy
Exploring the rural development under the aegis of environmental politics, this project will impart a student with a thorough understanding of Ghanaian policy. The student will work in various regions of Ghana, in order to comprehend the institutional framework of environmental research and policy within those villages. Problems with the current system will be identified, as the student will come to understand the way that solutions are efficaciously or faultily implemented. Furthermore, this project entails an investigation of dialog and discourse among individuals and between communities, conceptions of environmental justice, effects of policy on social and cultural traditions or values, and the manner in which environmental education and ethics are presented within developing countries.
Among several other questions, the student could explore the following:
How are farming systems affected/aided by environmental policy?
How do politics shape current conceptions of environmental stewardship?
How does the political system run from international to local? What hinders this passage of justice?
How do certain communities allocate blame for environmental destruction?
In what ways are individual ethics embraced by policy?
What conflicts exist and how can they be solved?
