Photo Op with Darwin

I'm trying to promote the use of full-size Darwin cut outs at evolution-related events. It's a fun way to celebrate science, and the photographs help advertise that normal people can embrace science without being burned at the stake (still, watch out out for crossbows and angry mobs). Posers can send the photographs to friends and relatives who might live in one of those science-fearin' states. And the photos can be used as Facebook profiles to advertise that you are totally fine with a round Earth and such. If more people would publicly friend evolution, the anti-evolutionists would move onto to some other hobby (anti-photosynthesis, maybe?).

If you are in a position of power at a museum, science center, zoo, or public school biology department...drop me a line and I can set you up with the image, printing tips, and suggestions on how to have a photo shoot. I'd like to see at least 201 locations with Darwin cut outs for his 201st birthday in 2010. And I'd love to see more full-size Darwins gracing the hallways of public schools in the United States.

Below are some sample photographs from the 2009 party at Swarthmore College. See the full set on my flickr site.

Photographs with cut out Charles Darwin

Thanks to the highly evolved and highly talented Mr Carl Buell, who painted the Darwin for me!!
