My laboratory focuses on the design, synthesis, and characterization of novel porphyrin-based antitumor drugs that function via inhibition of telomerase. The students will be exposed to various aspects of bioinorganic chemistry. They will get an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in a broad range of techniques with multiple applications. These include basic and advanced synthetic skills, DNA manipulation, small molecule crystallization, biochemical assays, collection/analysis of crystallographic data, and application of spectroscopic techniques to characterization of porphyrin and porphyrin-DNA interactions. The long term goal of the research is to develop better porphyrin-based anticancer therapeutics.

My teaching responsibilities typically include a combination of Inorganic Chemistry (Chemistry 46), General Chemistry (Chemistry 10 and 10H) as well as advanced topics in Biological Inorganic Chemistry (Chemistry 106).
