Instructions on using Olympus Camedia Digital Camera

NB: When this instruction sheet says, press the menu button n times, the count should begin from the first click on the menu button after turning the LCD display ON.  

 

Also, try not to use the LCD display when not connected to an external power source -- it runs down the batteries extremely quickly.

Borrowing the camera.

The Olympus D360L camera is stored in the department office.  To check it out, you need to give the departmental Administrative Assistant your College ID.  Take your pictures, and return the camera, then you can get your ID back.

Borrowing the camera.

The Olympus D360L camera is stored in the department office.  To check it out, you need to give the departmental Administrative Assistant your College ID.  Take your pictures, and return the camera, then you can get your ID back.

To take a picture with the camera, simply open the lens barrier, place the subject in the viewfinder, and press the Shutter release button fully.  If you need to use the flash, or the Macro mode (for images from 4" to 20" from the camera), see the appropriate sections.  Make sure you don't shut the barrier before the image is totally saved (a pencil icon appears on the LCD monitor while it is saving).

Downloading the picture onto a computer.

Go to the computer in room 213 labeled Elf 1.  To the right of the computer, you will find two cables, a serial cable (light colored), and a power cable (black).  Connect these into the side of the camera.  At this time, you should delete any pictures you don't want.   (Note: while the camera is plugged in, you should feel free to use the LCD screen, because you don't have to worry about conserving the battery).

 

Start the Olympus Camedia Master software.  Select Camera->Dowload all images from the menu, and pictures will be downloaded onto the computer.  This can take several minutes, depending on how many pictures you download.  Try not to store a lot of images on the PC.  If the disk gets too full, your images may be deleted to save space.  Either transfer them to the "engin" server, or to a zip disk, or to your own computer.

Deleting Unwanted Pictures.

• Deleting a single image:
  1.  

     Close the lens barrier, press the LCD monitor ON/OFF button and display the picture you want to erase.  Scroll through the pictures with the +/- buttons.

  2.  

     Press the erase button to get a menu selection for "Yes" or "No".  This is the button on top with the red icon that looks like a trash can.

  3.  

     Select "Yes" using the +/- buttons, then press the OK button (on top of the camera).

• Deleting all the stored images:
  1.  

     Close the lens barrier, press the LCD monitor ON/OFF button to turn on the LCD monitor.

  2.  

     Press the Menu button (on top of the camera -- it has a green icon that is a rectangle with three lines in it) several times unitl you get to a screen that has a trash can icon on the left side.

  3.  

     Select the trash can option in the menu by pushing the +/- buttons and press teh OK button (on top of the camera).

  4.  

     Press the OK button again with "Yes" selected to perfrom All-frame erase.   When complete, "No Picture" appears on the LCD monitor..

  5.  

     Press the erase button to get a menu selection for "Yes" or "No".  This is the button on top with the red icon that looks like a trash can.

  6.  

     Select "Yes" using the +/- buttons, then press the OK button (on top of the camera).

1.Ý Taking a picture

a) Using the optical viewfinder: Slide the lens barrier open, place the subject within the autofocus marks in the viewfinder, and press the Shutter release button fully.

b) Using the LCD display monitor: Slide the lens barrier, press the green LCD display ON/OFF button, and press the Shutter release button fully.  Don't use this method unless you absolutely have to, because it greatly decreases battery life.

In either case, make sure the green lamp next to the viewfinder is not blinking when you take the picture. You can look at the last picture taken by pressing the LCD display ON/OFF button twice (the green button on the back), when the lens barrier is open.  Again, don't do this unless necessary, because it decreases battery life.

2.Ý Using the flash

Auto-Flash	Automatically fires in low-light and backlight conditions
Red-Eye Reduction	Reduces the phenomenon of ìred-eyeî
Flash Off	Never fires
Fill-in Flash	Fires regardless of available light
Slow	For taking pictures of night views

Press the OK button to hold the settings of the flash. You can choose a combination of the flash modes by selecting the mode and pressing the OK button multiple times.

3.Ý Macro Mode

ÝÝÝÝ To take pictures as close as 4î from the subject, open the lens barrier, press the Macro/Digital Tele button to turn on the LCD display in macro mode, and take the picture. The shooting range in this mode is 4î- 20î.  Don't use this unless you have to, it quickly drains the battery.

4.Ý Digital Tele Mode

ÝÝÝÝ To magnify portion of the image, open the lens barrier, press the Macro/Digital Tele button twice, press the + button for 2X magnification and press ñ to return to original magnification.

5.  Exposure Compensation

ÝÝÝÝ To set exposure manually, open the lens barrier, press menu button once, select the appropriate brightness using the +/- button, press OK button to save the setting and take the picture

6.Ý Spot Metering Mode

ÝÝÝÝ To obtain the right exposure regardless of the backlighting, open the lens barrier, press the menu button twice, select SPOT using +/- buttons, press OK to save the setting, and take the picture

7.Ý White Balance

ÝÝÝÝ To match the white balance to the surrounding lighting condition, open the lens barrier, press the menu button four times, select the appropriate white balance using +/- buttons, press OK to save the setting and take the picture. The four possible white balances are Daylight, Overcast, Tungsten Light and Fluorescent Light.

8. ISO

ÝÝÝÝ To change the shutter speed and thus the sensitivity, press the menu button five times, select the appropriate sensitivity, press OK button to save the setting and take the picture. If you select AUTO, ISO is automatically set to high in low light condition when the flash is not used to prevent blurring from camera movements.

ÝÝÝÝ To take a panoramic picture, press the menu button seven times, select connecting direction using the +/- buttons, and take pictures by overlapping the edges of the images. (A maximum of 10 images can be connected.)

ÝÝÝÝ To reset the settings or hold them even after power is turned off, press the menu button ten times, select RESET or HOLD using the +/- buttons and press the OK button.
