Book:Discovering Dynamical Systems - this will be given out as notes throughout the semester

Location: Science Center 145

Grading:

50% Module Projects
10% Project Presentations
20% Individual Project
20% Class Participation

Overview:

The goal of this course is to not only learn the basics of dynamical systems, but to also gain experience in working and communicating in mathematics. You will thus spend much time in problem solving teams, working on problems that are often open-ended and not necessarily clearly defined. You will also have one project that is entirely your own, so you gain experience in learning independently.

Homework:

There will be homework associated with each module, with solutions presented in class by the various groups. The only written homework will be a project done with each module. Each group will hand in their project write up. Groups will take turns leading class discussions on the projects.

Individual Project:

You will choose your own topic to explore and for which you will be responsible for presenting to the class. You will also turn in a write up of your work on this topic.

Participation:

A main thrust of this class is to be learn how to communicate mathematics, thus it is crucial that all students be actively engaged in the class and group discussions.
