Sigma Xi is a national organization devoted to promoting scientific research. It has chapters at numerous college and university campuses, including Swarthmore's.
Our local chapter pursues several activities to promote scientific research among students, faculty, and staff. Our dinners are the primary activity. They are open to all members, and offer a chance to discuss scientific topics with fellow members as well as with distinguished guest speakers. These speakers present a public lecture after dinner (non-members are invited to these talks).
We also sponsor a student research poster session each fall.
Our chapter also provides modest funding opportunities to further student research. See the Funding page for links to information about these opportunities.
Membership is free for the first year (see the Membership page for membership information and an application). An additional benefit of membership is a free subscription to the magazine American Scientist.
You can read more about the mission of Sigma Xi on the website of the national organization.
