Historical Note
The WILPF regional structure was established in 1971 as a means of
outreach, to increase the number of local branches and membership.
Members of the WILPF National Board were to be elected from all
regions, in proportion to the WILPF members in each. Regionals
were encouraged to hold conferences and were seen as a means to
support a region-wide project or campaign on an issue. The first
regional conferences were held in 1972. [Earlier regional
conferences, organized by the U.S. National Office, are located in
Series A, 4, 1920-1959.]-

- I: Western Region
- II: Midwest Region
- III: Southern Region
- IV: Northeast Region

- Please consult the first folder (Regions: Misc.) for a map
illustrating the boundaries of the regions. Note that informal
regional gatherings such as the "North California Region," which
were organized to share the resources of local branches, are not
part of this Series, but rather can be found in Series B,1 - B,6,
according to the State in which they are organized.

- The bulk of the papers in this series comes from Region IV
(Northeast), which in 1987 articulated its meeting structure as
four meetings of a council/caucus per year and a biennial
conference. In the 1970s, conferences were held annually.
