BIOGRAPHICAL AND HISTORICAL NOTE

The commission was organized “to carry our Quaker participation in the Sesqui-Centennial from 6/1/26 to 11/30/26, and undertake matters pertaining to the Sesqui-Centennial during the summer of 1926 in Philadelphia and vicinity.” It arose from a meeting held at Fourth and Arch Street Meeting House on 10th month 8, 1925, called by Philadelphia Quarterly Meeting, Arch Street. Friends of both Hicksite and Orthodox branches were invited to form the Friends Sesqui-Centennial Commission. Officers were Charles F. Jenkins, Chairman, and Howard W. Elkinton, Secretary.
