Marcia Archuleta '11 is a junior at Swarthmore College majoring in Russian. Currently, she is studying in Russia.
Adam Bortner '12 grew up in Joppa, Maryland before exploring French language and culture by living abroad with a host family for one year after high school. Though he loves both creativity and writing (in English, French, and the language of music), he feels that he does not dedicate enough time to either. He intends to change that.
Aurora Camacho de Schmidt teaches Spanish and Latin American Studies at Swarthmore College. A Mexican citizen, she works on literature's embodiment of social struggles. She has edited and translated two books that chronicle major events in Mexican political history, and is at work on the translation of Ernesto Cardenal's memoir, The Lost Revolution, on the Sandinista victory and eventual defeat in Nicaragua.
Eleanor Glewwe '12 is a sophomore from Edina, Minnesota. In addition to French, she also studies Chinese. She enjoys creative writing and playing the cello.
Rebekah Judson '12 is a current sophomore studying history, education, and Russian. She has been writing since elementary school, and often wishes there were more time at Swarthmore for poetry.
Czeslaw Milosz (1911-2004) is a Polish-American poet, novelist, and essayist. He was born in Lithuania in 1911, and died in 2004 in Krakow. He won the Noble Prize in Literature in 1980. His works have been translated to many languages. He is considered one of the great poetic voices of the 20th century.
