Iva Pekárková

Iva Pekárková was born in 1963 in Prague, then Czechoslovakia, and studied biology before leaving the country in 1985. She spent a year in an Austrian refugee camp before coming to the United States in 1986. She worked for about ten years as one of New York City's few female cab drivers, and (as you can tell after reading Gimme the Money her fiction tends to make use of her personal experiences, though with considerable alteration. According to Czech Wikipedia, she has been living in London since 2005. She has many blog posts on a site in the Czech Republic (http://pekarkova.blog.idnes.cz/), and as you see below is a prolific writer whose latest novel (2015) was nominated for a major literary prize.
