Juniors are encouraged to apply for Departmental sponsorship of their senior recitals. Recitals are ordinarily given in the Lang Concert Hall. If you wish to give a Senior Recital with full support and to be assured of a desirable concert date, you must first submit a formal proposal to the Department before the end of your junior year. Then discuss possible dates with the Department Concert Manager, preferably in person during the Manager's office hours. Your proposal must include the program and the names of all other musicians involved. You may also apply to receive a subsidy to hire an accompanist. Students with a Garrigues Scholarship will ordinarily receive the full cost of an accompanist. Other students may apply to the Department for funding on a case by case basis. Honors music majors or minors who wish to count a senior recital as one of their Honors preparations must follow all of the steps listed above and obtain approval of their program from the music faculty during the semester preceding the proposed recital, and must register for Music 99, Senior Honors Recital. This full credit, together with one other full credit of coursework in Music, will constitute the two-credit Honors preparation. Students doing an honors recital must hold a Garrigues scholarship in order for their proposal to be approved. One faculty member will act as advisor on all aspects of the honors recital. As part of the Honors recital the student will write extensive program notes based on substantial research into the works to be performed; a full-fledged research paper will be written on at least one of the pieces to be performed. This work will be overseen by one or more members of the Music faculty. Updated November 2006 |
