Audition Information for Fall 2006:
- Auditions for Music 48 will take place on Friday September 8th, 1:15 – 5:00 PM in the Lang Concert Hall. Please sign-up for a specific audition time on the Department Bulletin board, top level of the Lang Music Building, opposite the Department Office. (Please note: these auditions are normally required in addition to the separate auditions for Department Ensembles listed below.) You will be asked to play a five-minute excerpt from your repertoire with an accompanist provided by the Department (unless your work is an unaccompanied solo).
- Orchestra - Please sign up for an audition time on the Orchestra bulletin board on the 4th level of the Lang Music Building (opposite the department office). Be prepared to play a 2-minute excerpt from your repertoire and read a passage at sight.
- Chorus - Please sign up for an audition time on the Chorus bulletin board on the 4th level of the Lang Music Building (opposite the department office). The audition consists of elementary sight-singing and vocalizing. No prepared piece is necessary.
- Wind Ensemble - Please see the Wind Ensemble bulletin board on the 4th level of the Lang Music Building (opposite the department office) for a sign-up sheet and location of the auditions. Auditions are for placement only; everyone is welcome and encouraged to play! For more information, email Michael Johns at mjohns1@swarthmore.edu.
- Jazz Ensemble - Placement auditions will take place in the first weeks of the semester. All students are encouraged to prepare a short jazz excerpt that displays representative jazz style and technique. Please see the Jazz bulletin board on the 4th level of the Lang Music Building for sign-ups and other details.
- Balinese Gamelan - Any student who wishes to play in the ensemble is welcome to join. No prior musical experience is required; just come to the first rehearsal on Thursday, September 7th, 4-5 PM. If you are interested in performing as a dancer with the Gamelan, please email Tom Whitman (twhitma1@swarthmore.edu) and include information about our prior training and experience in dance.
- Chamber Music - Auditions will take place on Friday, September 8th, in the Lang Concert Hall, following the MU48/Lessons for Credit auditions. Please note: If you are auditioning for MU48/Lessons for Credit, you do not have to audition separately for the Fetter Program. Indicate your interest in participating in chamber music on the MU48 sign-up sheet. If auditioning for Chamber Music only, sign-up for a specific audition time on the Department Bulletin board on the top level of the Lang Music Building (opposite the Department Office).
