Alumni Stories

Justene Hill, '04 - The faculty in the Spanish department are wonderful. Because the department is so small, students receive a tremendous amount of attention and have
ample opportunity to develop relationships with the professors that extend beyond basic classroom interactions. When I studied abroad in Spain, I maintained contact with my Spanish advisor and she was very interested and invested in my experience abroad. She made sure that my classes were going well and that my homestay experience was comfortable. The professors are amiable, approachable, and always willing to spend the extra time to provide help and encouragement. During the application process to graduate school as an alum, I continued to receive guidance and advice. This aspect means the most to me right now because I know that I still have connections to the department even though my undergraduate years are over.

Rebecca Giguere, '97 — "Spanish, has played a very important role in my life since my first trip abroad in high school when I understood the significance of what was previously just another subject in school. I decided to continue with Spanish at Swarthmore where I had a very rewarding experience. I was exposed to a vast selection of Latin American literatures which inspired both the Spanish speaker and the writer in me."
