RUSSIAN
FOLK SONG TAPE: A tape with two Russian folk songs on it
is now in the Language Resource Center. On the tape, song
lyrics are read and then sung. The tape is being made for
first-year students, but you may find the phonetics hints
helpful as well. Ask to see the LRC hard copy of the words
that go with the tape (just don't take them home!) More
songs to follow.

YULIA MENSHOVA INTERVIEW: "Ja sama" or "I
[feminine] myself [will do it]" is the name of the
nationally-known Russian TV talk show hosted by Yulia
Menshova. Widely regarded as Russia's Oprah Winfrey, Yulia
has generated considerable controversy about the role
of women in daily life. For fun, take a look at her interview
with The Moscow Times at http://www.themoscowtimes.ru/stories/2001/09/07/101.html
