In this course you will be working with the text book (Livre), the workbook (Laboratoire), and web pages that include your grammar and vocabulary exercises, dialogues and external links. The homepage for the course is the first address given above. Your laboratory exercises will be turned in as a packet on Monday of each week. You must be present in class to turn them in. No exercises sent through college mail, slipped under the door, or turned in later than Monday will be accepted. Your grammar and vocabulary exercises are self-correcting. It is very important that you complete your exercises for the days indicated on the syllabus. Please do not try to complete computer assignments at the last possible moment. It is impossible to predict internet congestion, server crashes, and other acts of a sometimes less than benevolent deity. PLEASE PLAN AHEAD AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.
Please note that the laboratory tapes are available on the LRC site as streaming audio: (http://www.swarthmore.edu/Humanities/langlab/audio/voila01.htm ). However this site does not allow you to repeat after the tape and record your own voice. For this reason it is important that you complete the lab exercises in the LRC with the traditional audio tapes. You should use the streaming audio site only for review. The site address will appear at the top of each week's syllabus.
The Audio CDs packaged with your textbook include a reading of the "Vocabulaire de base" for the week and a model conversation in French. You should review the pronunciation of the vocabulary on a regular basis.
