Functions:
Selling film and paper at discounted prices
We sell rolls of Kodak T-MAX film in 100 and 400 ASA for $1.00 per roll (36 exposures). We also sell both fiber based (FB) and resin-coated (RC) paper in different finishes. Paper is sold in packages of 25 sheets of 8x10”. RC paper costs $6.00/pkg, and FB paper is $8.00/pkg. We hope to add several more types of film this year for those interested in color slide photography, higher ASA speed, etc. We may also begin selling 11x14” paper.
Darkroom Usage
The photography club maintains a darkroom on the 5th floor of Parrish (it will still be accessible during renovation). It is equipped with all the chemicals and other materials needed for film processing and printing, as well as several other miscellaneous supplies. You must have a darkroom orientation (which takes about 15 minutes) in order to get access to the darkroom. The darkroom is locked, and the key is available at Ben West Visitor Center (near Willets), but you will only be given the key if you are on their list (i.e. we’ve put you on the list because you’ve had an orientation). When you get the key you can either hand in your ID (you get it back when you return the key), or have a duplicate ID created for you at Ben West (free of charge), which allows you to keep your reel ID while using the darkroom. You MUST clean up after yourself. The Coordinators do not have time to do this. Books may be borrowed from the darkroom this year for as long as you need them. One book per person at a time. Just make sure that you write your name and extension on the darkroom dry erase board so that someone can contact you if they would like to use the book as well.
Day Trips and Events
This year, the Photo Club will be organizing several workshops and day trips that would be organized around a central theme, such as urban photography (in Philly), glamour photography in a studio setting, etcetera.
Student Photography Show
In Spring 2004, the Photo Club sponsored its 6th annual Student Photography Show in Kitao Art Gallery. We hope to do have several exhibitions this year, perhaps one in the fall and one in the spring. During the weeks before the shows, the Photo Club will hold critiques for those interested in submitting prints to the show, as well as print matting workshops.
Digital Photography Workspace
The Photo Club is currently in the process of creating a proposal for a digital photo workplace that would include one or two Apple G5’s, Displays, a high –end film/APS/Medium format scanner, and Epson photo printer, Photoshop CS, and a color-calibrating bundle. We would love to hear any and all of your suggestions.
Studio Space
The Photo Club will also submit a proposal to facilities this fall for additional space that could be used for studio photography. We would love to hear any suggestions you might have on the idea.
