LeRoy Johnson, Cooper Foundation visiting artist and List Gallery exhibitor this October, has been acclaimed by critics as "Romeare Bearden in three dimensions." Johnson's mixed-media work bears witness to ongoing racism and injustice while affirming human commonality and spiritual tenacity. The artist writes: "My work is concerned with life and experience in the inner city. I am impressed by the makeshift shelters I come across in the urban environment — temporary shelters made of cardboard, tin, and/or wood, made by people without tools or homes — structures shaped by necessity and formed with available materials and improvisation… My pieces are both map and metaphor for the urban landscape and the scope of the unconscious."
Funded by the William J. Cooper Foundation.

This extraordinary and varied collection of woodblock prints highlights the mastery of Dong Jiansheng (b. 1936) and four other artists from China's Hebei Province who responded to his influence. Jiansheng's artistic career spans more than a half-century of dramatic change in China, from the Anti-Rightist Movement and Cultural Revolution to recent economic and social transformations. Curated by Renee Covalucci, and adjunct assistant professor at the Art Institute of Boston.
