PREPARATION AND SPECIAL RESOURCES/ ESTUDIO Y MATERIALES ESPECIALES

How do you study a language?

1)
  Be active in class every day;
2)
  listen to the text audio disc (keyed to parts of the texbook) before MWF class;
3)
  review the structures of the lesson before T and Th class;
4)
  work with the CD-Rom once a week, at end of week (keyed to each chapter);
5)
  turn in written homework every Tuesday;
6)
  prepare for oral (Monday) and written (Thursday) weekly tests, preferably in a group;
7)
  see a film every other week and discuss it on Friday;
8)
  work with audio CDs at the Language Resource Center six times during the semester, and weekly if your instructors recommend it;
9)   cover the text pages marked for work outside the classroom on Fridays with your assigned compañera or compañero. (You do not have to do all the writing).
10)   memorize vocabulary at end of each lesson;
11)   from time to time, work in teams on "actuaciones" or skits.

Punctual attendance is essential in this course and highly valued by your instructors. It is also reflected in your grade.

There are no make-up weekly tests.

It is better and more fun to prepare for a quiz with another student or in a group of three or four students. Make a routine practice of it. Organize a Spanish group in your dorm.

Both of your instructors have office hours. Please see them to discuss any difficulty you encounter. LRC director Mr. Michael Jones can help you with problems in the language laboratory.
