This is a fast-moving, intensive course, the first of two semesters. You will build the foundation toward achieving basic proficiency in understanding, speaking, reading and writing the Spanish language, as you learn about the cultures of Spain and Latin America. Credit for Spanish 1B is granted only when Spanish 2B is completed. The course has three components: 1. Grammar presentation. Two
75 min. sessions per week give you an opportunity to know the structure
of the language in its social and historical context.
3. Videos, films, audio CDs, a CD-Rom, and interactive exercises at the Language Resource Center (LRC). You will watch some films with the purpose of increasing your comprehension and conversational ability and learning about the culture of Spanish-speaking peoples. There is a link in this site to exercises prepared especially for you. Your instructors will tell you when you can work on them. Audio CDs linked to lessons in the
textbook are available in the LRC. We ask you to work at the LRC six times during the semester.
