While there are clearly many good reasons for high school students to expose themselves to college level course work, Swarthmore normally does not grant Swarthmore degree credit for college work done prior to starting school at Swarthmore (including the summer before Swarthmore), but advanced placement into courses with prerequisites may be possible.
All placement or credit decisions are made on a subject-by-subject basis by the individual Swarthmore departments. New students are encouraged to speak with someone in the department about placement, usually the departmental administrative assistant.
Many Swarthmore departments award some degree credit and/or advanced placement without credit for excellent AP and IB test scores. For AP and IB credit rules, please see the AP and IB credit Guide.
