Recent Events
New York: In May the New York Connection gathered for Swarthmore Symposium IX-"Wines of Germany with Peter Sichel." David Wright '69 and Don Fujihira '69 organized the wine tasting. In June the group enjoyed Al Carmines' ['58] musical play Martyrs and Lullabies. Theatre By The Blind's Blind Spots was on tap later in the month. Ike Schambelan '61 organized the event. On June 26 Swarthmoreans enjoyed a performance by Vaneese Thomas '74 and Rob Mathes at the New Life Cafe at Middle Collegiate Church. Freeman Palmer '79 hosted the event.
North Carolina: North Carolina Swarthmoreans turned out in Durham for food, swimming, and a potluck dinner on June 15. The afternoon was organized by George Telford '84 and Priscilla Coit Murphy '67.
Philadelphia: Swarthmore seniors joined the Philadelphia Connection for the Phillies vs. Dodgers game in May.
San Francisco: The San Francisco connection enjoyed a screening of Cold Fever, produced and co-written by Jim Stark '71. Jim joined the group for dinner before the film.
Seattle: In June Seattle Swarthmoreans watched Cold Fever, then gathered at the Big Time Brewing Company for casual conversation. The outing was organized by Deborah Read '87.
Washington, D.C.: On June 2 the Washington, D.C., Connection met at la Madeleine for a wine tasting featuring French wines. Dorita Sewell '65 planned the event.
Luce Scholarships to Asia
Alumni under age 30 with no previous career interest or academic concentration in Asian studies, and little or no exposure to East or Southeast Asia, are invited to apply for the Luce Scholars Program, which funds a year in Asia. For more information on the program, contact the Career Planning and Placement Office at (610) 328-8351.

A performance by Theatre by the Blind is planned for the New York Connection in late May. Planned for early summer is a wine tasting-Swarthmore Symposium X.
