Dear Lang Committee,

First of all, we would like to thank you all for giving us the opportunity to work on our LANG project this summer. Learning For Life has become an integral part of both of our Swarthmore experiences. Not a day has passed this entire year, especially this summer when we have not thought about the program, about new ideas, about solving its quirks, about making it bigger and better. Receiving this LANG grant has enabled us to sit down together for long periods of time (boy, was that hard to do during the academic year!) and devote all of our emotional and physical energy to this project. (and trust me…punching holesin hundreds of sheets of paper can be strenuous work!) These past three weeks, we have been running on all eight cylinders. Our purpose in working with the Learning For Life Program this summer was to get a head start on institutionalizing the program. This was a daunting but exciting task. We thought it was very important to start by further introducing Learning For Life to the college community and garnering as much support as possible along the way. In this process,we also realized that we had a lot to learn about a lot ofthings. What are the staff members' hours? Where is the college adding computer clusters on campus? What is a computer cluster? But being the good Swatties that we are, we found ourselves jumping at the chance to finally fully understand these aspects of the college that we were ignorant about earlier in the year. So thus, the process of learning, discovering, implementing, revising and institutionalizing began.

These past three weeks, we have been setting up meetings with various members of the Swarthmore College community as well as communicating with them through phone conversations and email. We have learned so much from all of our meetings. Not only have we learned new facts and new things about the college and different divisions but we have learned how much support our program has from all aspects of the college community. From supervisors to staff members to fellow students to administrators, people have beenliterally coming out of the woodwork to tell us how much they appreciate our program. It is a wonderful feeling to walk into a room and have someone tell you they appreciate you and what you are doing. This summer has been enlightening in so many ways. It has revitalized us, pumped us up and gotten us so enthusiastic about next year! So thank you for the opportunity to be here this summer, to truly realize the potential of our LANG project, and for your support. The real purpose of this binder is to show you what your support has made possible. We hope that you all have wonderful summers. We know we have.

Sincerely,

Susie Ansell
