Successful Applicants are - individuals seek to use their
educational and professional experience in service to
disadvantaged communities.
They receive - $32,500 a year to cover living expenses
and workshops with other OSI Fellows.
How many: 20 fellowships awarded in 1998.
What do they do: work with an existing nonprofit in either
New York City or Baltimore, or start your own program.
How long: 18 months.
Program goals: To encourage public and community service
careers, promote initiatives that increase entrepreneurship
and improve the quality of life in communities and to
increase the number of mentors and role-models available
to inner-city youths.
Deadline: The end of 1999.
