PURPOSE

To nurture and develop the talented voices, academic skills and the character of urban boys through music education and performance.

OBJECTIVES

¥ To develop the musical skills and choral abilities of talented elementary school boys

¥ To practice and value focus and discipline

¥ To expose boys to a wide variety of positive experiences in their neighborhoods and beyond

¥ To develop skills in team bulding and cooperation

¥ To model determination and excellence in the pursuit of knowledge

METHODS

¥ Audition all boys in the targeted school(s)

¥ Teach each student to play an instrument

¥ Introduction and practice of karate and baseball for concentration and strategy

¥ Develop a repertoire of choral works and a regular performance schedule

¥ Set goals and expectations in and out of the practice sessions

¥ Provide academic tutoring to participants

¥ Schedule enrichment activities such as field trips to museums, baseball games and canoeing
