Sudha Koul
Sudha Koul was born in Kashmir. She received her Bachelor's
and Master's in Political Science from the Universityof Jammu
& Kashmir after which she taught Political Science at
Lady Shri Ram College in New Delhi. Koul then joined the government
when she became the first woman from the state of Jammu &
Kashmir to be selected as an officer of the Indian Administrative
Service. After marriage she moved to the United States and
raised a family. Sudha Koul joined The Institute of Semitic
Studies in Princeton, New Jersey, as Manager. In this position
she was Project Director for joint projects with Princeton
University. She has since guest lectured at Princeton University,
Bowdoin College, and Seton Hall University. In 1983, Koul
founded Cashmir, Inc., a publishing company. For the last
20 years she has been the President of Cashmir, Inc., and
has written and published two books - Curries without Worries-an
introduction to Indian Cuisine (Warner Books) and Come with
me to India on a Wondrous Voyage through Time. Her latest
book - The Tiger Ladies-a Memoir of Kashmir - (2002) has been
published by Beacon Press in the U.S. and Hodder Headline
in the U.K.
