The Cooper Foundation

The William J. Cooper Foundation provides a varied program of lectures, performances and exhibitions which enriches the academic work of Swarthmore College. The Foundation was established by William J. Cooper who specified that the income from his gift should be used "in bringing to the college eminent citizens of this and other countries who are leaders in statesmanship, education, the arts, sciences, learned professions and business." Planning for the 2010-2011 season is currently underway.

Cooper Foundation Special Initiative

The Cooper Foundation announces a special initiative for the 2010-2011 season. In celebration of the inauguration of President Rebecca Chopp, we would like to solicit proposals addressing the inaugural theme, "Hope in an Age of Clamor: Leadership, Liberal Arts and the Common Good." The theme will be explored at the inaugural celebration in two symposium panels, "Reimagining Civil Discourse" and "Sustainable Living," as well as in President Chopp's address. Applications whose subjects relate to these topics of discussion, and are cross-disciplinary or inter-departmental, are particularly welcomed for next year's Cooper Series. However, grants will be also be made to proposals unrelated to the theme.
